Ayrshire

Former county of southwest Scotland, on the Firth of Clyde, which was merged to form the greater part of four districts in Strathclyde region in 1975.

Ayrshire was merged into the districts of Kyle and Carrick, Kilmarnock and Loudoun, and Cumnock and Doon Valley, and forming the greater part of the district of Cunninghame in 1975. It is now divided into three unitary authorities, which bear its name - East, North, and South.
