Bär, Olaf (1957– )

German baritone. He joined the Dresden Staatsoper in 1985 and sang Harlequin in Ariadne at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, the same year. He made his US debut in 1987, as Christus in Bach's St Matthew Passion with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and he sang at Glyndebourne in 1987 and 1991, as the Count in Richard Strauss's Capriccio and as Verdi's Don Giovanni. He is also noted as a fine singer of lieder (German song).
