Bohemian Forest

Wooded mountain range, a southern extension of the Bohemian massif, stretching over 200 km/125 mi from Bavaria, Germany, to the southwestern Czech Republic. The River Vltava, rising in the Czech Republic, cuts deeply through the rugged and sparsely populated terrain. The highest point in Bavaria is the Gross Arber (1,457 m/4,856 ft) and in the Czech Republic, the Plechý or Plöchenstein (1,378 m/4,593 ft).
