Büsser, Henri

Büsser, (Paul-) Henri (1872–1973)

French conductor and composer. He conducted Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande at its first production in 1902 and made an orchestral version of Printemps.

He was a pupil of Charles Widor and Félix Guilmant at the Paris Conservatory, and won the Prix de Rome in 1893. He was successively organist at Saint-Cloud, conductor of the choral class at the Conservatory, and director of Louis Niedermeyer's school. In 1921 he was appointed professor of composition at the conservatory.

Daphnis et Chloé (1897), Colomba (after Mérimée), Les Noces corinthiennes (1922), La Pie borgne, Le Carrosse du Saint-Sacrement (Mérimée; 1948).
