B cell![]() B cells, a type of lymphocyte (white blood cell), have an important role in the body's immune system. When a B cell encounters an invading bacterium it starts to divide, forming two different types of cell. One type is a clone of itself that begins to produce antibodies to fight the infection; the other is a memory cell that will persist in the bloodstream, ready to produce antibodies should re-infection occur.

| That finding makes sense because earlier work showed that B cells give rise to plasma cells during normal blood development, says Matsui. In this paper, we demonstrate that Xcyte's Xcellerate Process restores the ability of T cells to interact with the malignant B cells and to eliminate them by inducing programmed cell death, or apoptosis. That done, the cells then differentiated into both red blood cells and white blood cells called B cells, which play an indispensable role in the immune system. |
