Mountain peak, first element in the names of numerous Scottish mountains such as Ben Lomond, Ben More, and Ben Nevis. The related Brittanic form of ban (plural bannau) is found in some Welsh place names, including Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons).
