Baabda

Capital of the governorate of Jebel Lubnan in central Lebanon, southeast of Beirut; population (2001 est) 15,400. It is the site of the country's presidential palace.

When General Aoun became Lebanon's next head of state--although one subject to a strong Syrian veto--Hobeika served as an intermediary between Assad and Aoun, visiting the general frequently at the Baabda Palace to try to secure his allegiance to Syria.
The General, as he is known in Lebanon, led a full-scale war against Syria, occupying the presidential palace at Baabda, while Hoss led a rival cabinet in Beirut.
