Baaren, Kees van (1906–1970)

Dutch composer. He studied with Willem Pijper, and was a leading Dutch exponent of serial music, exploiting both tonal and 12-note varieties of this kind of composition, and also very active as a teacher. From 1957 he was director of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

Works

The Hollow Men (words by T S Eliot), cantata for chorus and orchestra (1948); Variazioni per Orchestra (1959); a string quartet and a wind quintet (Sovraposizione I and II) (1963).
