Babol

City in Mazandaran province, northern Iran; population (1994 est) 153,000. Babol was founded in the 16th century on the site of the ancient city of Mamter. It has a large volume of trade through Babol Sar, its port on the Caspian Sea. Babol has food-processing and textile industries.
