Babuyan Islands

Group of 24 islands in Cagayan province in the Philippines, to the north of Luzon Island; area 582 sq km/225 sq mi; population (1995 est) 24,500. The islands are mountainous and volcanic with little arable land; root crops (sweet potatoes) are grown. The major islands are Babuyan, Calayan, and Camiguin. Big game fishing draws tourists to the Babuyan Channel.

Babuyan Claro, an active volcano on Babuyan Island, is 1,088 m/3,569 ft in height.
