Bach, Alexander (1813–1893)

Austrian politician. A liberal member of the Frankfurt Parliament 1848, he turned to conservative policies and became minister of the interior in the absolutist cabinet of Schwarzenberg. After Schwarzenberg's death 1852, Bach was effectively chief minister to the young emperor Franz Joseph. When the Austrians were expelled from Lombardy, Italy, 1859, Bach's government was dismissed.
