Badescu, Dinu (1904– )

Romanian tenor. He made his debut at Cluj, in 1931, as Germont (a baritone part); his tenor debut was as Alessandro Stradella. He sang with the Bucharest Opera 1934–61, in Verdi and Puccini, and in 1937 he sang Calaf and Faust at the Warsaw Opera, with Shalyapin. He appeared in Italy in 1938 and throughout occupied Europe during World War II. From 1948 he performed at the Vienna Staatsoper, in about 50 different roles, and from 1955 to 1961 he sang in eastern Europe.
