Guadalquivir

River in southern Spain, rising in the east of Jaén province; length 600 km/373 mi. It flows by Baeza, Andújar, Córdoba, and Seville, to the Atlantic Ocean at Sanlúcar de Barrameda. It is navigable below Seville; parts of the river are bypassed by a canal near Seville, which has an inland port. It is very important for irrigation.

A few tiny baetis mayflies appeared on the water at midday and trout grabbed them as they floated by.

The fish feed mostly on midge larva and pupa and on aquatic worms and the occasional baetis mayfly in the winter.
