Guadalquivir

River in southern Spain, rising in the east of Jaén province; length 600 km/373 mi. It flows by Baeza, Andújar, Córdoba, and Seville, to the Atlantic Ocean at Sanlúcar de Barrameda. It is navigable below Seville; parts of the river are bypassed by a canal near Seville, which has an inland port. It is very important for irrigation.
