Bagration, Petr Ivanovich, Prince Bagration

    0.01 sec.

Bagration, Petr Ivanovich, Prince Bagration (1765–1812)

Russian general of Georgian descent who served during the Napoleonic Wars. After distinguishing himself in several battles, Bagration was fatally wounded while commanding the 2nd Russian Army against the French at the Battle of Borodino.

Bagration joined the Russian army in 1783. He conducted a courageous rearguard action against General Murat at the battle of Schongraben (1805), which helped save much of Mikhail Kutuzov's army. At Austerlitz (1805), and at Eylau and Friedland (1807), the Russians were defeated, but Bagration always won personal honour for his bravery.
