Baguio

Summer resort on Luzon island in the Philippines, 200 km/125 mi north of Manila, 1,370 m/4,500 ft above sea level; population (2000) 252,400. It is the official summer residence of the Philippine president.

There is a military academy and two universities dating from 1911 and 1948.

Emelie Baguio earned a medical degree from Cebu Institute of Medicine in the Philippines and completed her postgraduate training in Manila.
In 1904 Daniel Burnham was commissioned to develop plans for Manila and the northern hill resort city of Baguio.
