Bahía Blanca

Port in Buenos Aires department, southeast Argentina, situated on the River Naposta, 5 km/3 mi from its mouth on the South Atlantic Ocean; population (2001) 274,500. It is a rail terminus and major distribution centre, serving a considerable area of central Argentina. Main exports include grain from Buenos Aires province, and produce from the Rio Negro valley including meat, and wool. The naval base of Puerto Belgrano, South America's largest, is here.
