Baie Comeau

City in southeastern Québec, Canada, 350 km/217 mi northeast of Québec City, situated on the north bank of the St Lawrence River, at the mouth of the Manicouagan River; population (1991) 26,000. It was founded around a paper mill in 1936.

It has a major aluminium plant, also drawing on waterpower, and the Manic 2 dam, a unit of Hydro-Québec's huge Manic-Outardes power complex, is to the northwest. Baie Comeau is also a deepwater port, a transshipment point for grain.
