Bailey, David (1938– )

English fashion photographer. His work for Vogue magazine in the 1960s and his black-and-white portraits of fashionable celebrities did much to define the image of ‘swinging London’. He has also directed documentaries and commercials for television. His books include Box of Pin-ups (1965) and Goodbye Baby and Amen (1969).

Bailey began directing and producing television commercials in the mid-1960s, and turned to producing television documentaries in the late 1960s. His documentaries include Beaton by Bailey (1971), Andy Warhol (1973), and Who Dealt? (1993). A major show of Bailey's work was held in London's Barbican Art Gallery in 1999.
