Bailey, Gamaliel (1807-1859)

US physician, journalist, and abolitionist. Bailey was co-editor of the first anti-slavery newspaper in western America. He went on to found a daily newspaper, the Herald, in 1843 before becoming editor-in-chief of the periodical of the American and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society in 1847.
