Bailey, Norman (1933- )

English baritone. He made his debut in Vienna, in 1959, and sang in Germany during the 1960s (appearing as Hans Sachs in Bremerhaven in 1967) before singing Sachs with the Sadler's Wells Theatre Company in 1968; he also sang this role on his debuts at Bayreuth (1969) and the New York Metropolitan Opera House (1976). He is a specialist in Wagner repertory and sang in the first performance of Goehr's Behold the Sun at Duisburg in 1985. He appeared with Opera North as Oroveso in Norma in 1993.
