Baillie, Alexander (1956– )

English cellist. She studied with Jacqueline Du Pré and Andre Navarra and gave many concerts in Europe and North America, including Penderecki's Second Concerto in Canada; other modern repertory includes the premieres of works by Takemitsu (Orion and Pleiades), Schnittke (Sonata), Colin Matthews (Concerto) and Lutoslawski (Grave). She also plays Henze's Sieben Liebeslieder/Seven Lovesongs and the Delius Concerto. She made her US concert debut in 1993 with the Boston Philharmonic. Her recordings include works by Tippett, Elgar, Bridge, and Britten.
