Bainbridge

City and administrative headquarters of Decatur County, southwest Georgia, on the Flint River above Lake Seminole; population (2000) 11,700. Originally an American Indian trading post, it grew from the 1820s to become a lumbering town and river port. It has textile and varied light industries, and is Georgia's main inland barge port.

It is a gateway to the Lake Seminole recreation area. Bainbridge College (1973) is here.
