Bairnsfather, (Charles) Bruce (1888–1959)

British cartoonist, artist, and writer. His ‘Old Bill’ cartoons – grimly humourous depictions of British soldiers in the trenches of World War I – were at first censured. In World War II he was official cartoonist to the US Army in Europe 1942–44.

After World War II, his work also appeared in Tatler, Life, and The New Yorker.
