Balanga

Capital of Bataan province on Luzon Island in the Philippines, on the western side of Manila Bay, 50 km/31 mi from Manila; population (1990) 51,500. To the south, at Pilar, is the mouth of the River Talisay. Industries include textiles and electronics.

Near to Balanga, on Mount Samat, is Dambana ng Kagitingan, a national monument to the victims of the Battle of Bataan in World War II, in which Filipino and American troops suffered defeats by the Japanese.
