Balcon, Michael Elias (1896–1977)

English film producer. He entered film production in the early 1920s and was instrumental in developing the career of the young Alfred Hitchcock. Subsequently, he was responsible for the influential Ealing comedies of the 1940s and early 1950s (see Ealing Studios), such as Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), Whisky Galore! (1949), and The Lavender Hill Mob (1951).
