Ball, Frank Clayton (1857-1943)

US industrialist and philanthropist. After the death of his father, Ball and his four brothers began to make tin cans and glass jars to ship oils and varnishes, later expanding into the realm of food storage. Their products enabled people to store their own food in jars at home, and the company consequently flourished even during the Great Depression. He and his brothers later turned to philanthropy, giving over $7 million to various institutions.
