ball-flower

An ornament in English Gothic architecture, resembling a ball placed within a circular flower, usually with either three or four petals. It is characteristic of the Decorated style of the first quarter of the 14th century. It is supposed to be either an imitation of a pomegranate, or of a hawk's bill.
