Ballard (lived 16th–18th centuries)

French family of music printers. The founders were Robert Ballard (c. 1525–1588) and Adrien Le Roy, who became music printers to Henry II in 1553, issuing chanson collections. The brothers Pierre and Robert ii (c. 1575–1650) continued the business, while Pierre's son Robert iii (c. 1610–1673) published orchestral scores; his son Christophe (1641–1715) published works by Campra, Charpentier, the Couperins, and Lully. The firm declined from 1722, when Rameau's Traité was published.
