Ballard (lived 16th-18th centuries)

French family of music printers. The founders were Robert Ballard (c. 1525-1588) and Adrien Le Roy, who became music printers to Henry II in 1553, issuing chanson collections. The brothers Pierre and Robert ii (c. 1575-1650) continued the business, while Pierre's son Robert iii (c. 1610-1673) published orchestral scores; his son Christophe (1641-1715) published works by Campra, Charpentier, the Couperins, and Lully. The firm declined from 1722, when Rameau's Traité was published.
