Administrative region in the northeast of Northern Ireland, bordering the River Bann and administering one northern section of County Antrim; area 416 sq km/161 sq mi; population (2001) 26,900. The towns under the council's remit include Ballymoney, Dunloy, Cloughmills, Rasharkin. The principal sources of employment include agriculture, agribusiness, markets, retail, and textiles.
