Baltinglass

Market town in County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 2,000. Baltinglass is 48 km/30 mi southwest of Wicklow town, and is close to the Glen of Imaal. The ruins of Vallis Salutis Abbey, founded by Dermot MacMurrough, King of Leinster, in 1148, can still be seen.

Above Baltinglass, on Baltinglass Hill (383 m/1,286 ft) is Rathcoran, a large hill fort with burial chambers and standing stones.
