Baltsa, Agnes (1944– )

Greek mezzo-soprano. She made her debut in Frankfurt, in 1968, as Cherubino and sang Octavian in Vienna in 1970. She appeared at La Scala and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, from 1976, and was Romeo in Bellini's I Capuleti/The Capulets at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1984. Her other roles include Berlioz's Dido, Dorabella, and Carmen. Her vivid stage personality has also been admired as Azucena and as Cenerentola and Dalila, a role she sang at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 1990–91.
