Bampton, Rose

Bampton, Rose (1907–2007)

US soprano. She performed a range of octaves as a mezzo soprano and soprano and appeared regularly at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, 1932–43.

She made her debut at the Chautauqua Opera, New York, in Charles Gounod's Faust in 1929, and at the Metropolitan Opera in Amilcare Ponchielli's La Gioconda in 1932, and made her first soprano performance there in Verdi's Trovatore in 1937. In 1944 she performed in a radio broadcast of Beethoven's Fidelio.
