Bandaranaike, Sirimavo (1916–2000)Sri Lankan politician, prime minister 1994–2000. She succeeded her husband Solomon Bandaranaike to become the world's first female prime minister, 1960–65 and 1970–77, but was expelled from parliament in 1980 for abuse of her powers while in office. Her daughter Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was elected president in 1994. She resigned her position on 10 August 2000 because of poor health, and was replaced by Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.
