Bandaranaike, Solomon West Ridgeway Dias (1899-1959)

Sri Lankan nationalist politician. In 1952 he founded the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and in 1956 became prime minister, pledged to a socialist programme and a neutral foreign policy. He failed to satisfy extremists and was assassinated by a Buddhist monk.
