Bandon

Town in County Cork, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 1,600. It is situated 27 km/17 mi southwest of the city of Cork on both banks of the River Bandon. It has telecommunications industries, and is a centre for salmon and trout fishing. Bandon was one of the towns founded by Richard Boyle (1566–1643), 1st Earl of Cork, on the forfeited lands he acquired for the plantation of English and Scottish settlers during the early 17th century.

River in County Cork, Republic of Ireland; length 64 km/40 mi. The Bandon rises in the Carberry Mountains, near Dunmanway, and flows southeast through the town of Bandon into Kinsale harbour.

The Bandon valley has scenic woodland and river views, and is popular with anglers.

Bandon

City in southwest Oregon, on the Pacific coast, 32 km/20 mi southwest of Coos Bay, at the mouth of the Coquille River; population (1990 est) 2,200. Its major industry is the export of cranberries, grown in bogs north and south of the city.

Bandon also exports cheese and other dairy products. It is a popular seaside resort community and artists' colony.
