Baner, Johan

Baner, Johan (1596–1641)

Swedish soldier. He was one of the foremost generals of the Thirty Years' War. At the Battle of Breitenfeld 1631, he commanded the right wing of the army under King Gustavus Adolphus, and on the death of Gustavus 1632, Baner was made field marshal. His two most noted victories were those at Wittstock 1636 and Chemnitz 1639.
