Bannatyne Club

Literary club founded in Edinburgh in 1823 by the novelist Walter Scott and other Scottish antiquaries for the printing of rare works relating to Scottish history, literature, and antiquities. Scott was the first president.

By the time the club was dissolved 1861, it had been responsible for the printing of 116 works, which are indispensable for Scottish studies.

The name was derived from George Bannatyne (1545–1609), who collected Scottish poetry of the 15th and early 16th centuries.
