Bannockburn

Town in Stirling unitary authority, Scotland, on Bannock Burn, 4 km/3 mi southeast of Stirling; population (2001) 7,400. Its principal industry is the manufacture of textiles and woollens. At the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, a resounding Scottish victory was achieved by Robert (I) the Bruce over the English forces of Edward II as they advanced to relieve Stirling Castle.

The bore stone reputed to have held the Scottish standard remains on display.

Barbour was born about six years after the battle of Bannockburn.
