Barbacena

Industrial town of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, 190 km/118 mi northwest of Rio de Janeiro; altitude 1,100 m/3,608 ft; population (1996) 107,810. The main industries are silk and cotton textile manufacturing, ceramics, and glass. Barbacena is the distribution centre for an extensive flower-growing industry in the vicinity.
