barbastelle

Insect-eating bat Barbastella barbastellus with hairy cheeks and lips, ‘frosted’ black fur, and a wingspan of about 25 cm/10 in. It lives in hollow trees and under roofs, and is occasionally found in the UK but more commonly in Europe.

The bat was captured by a university researcher looking for another rare British bat, the barbastelle, in the area.
It was found during the project set up to study another rare bat, the barbastelle.
Aside from the Greater and Lesser Horseshoe bats, which roost solely inbuildings, many species roost in trees Barbastelles, Bechsteins and Noctulebats almost exclusively.
