Barber, (Walter Lanier) ‘Red’ (1908-1992)

US baseball broadcaster. Barber was the broadcaster for the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees from 1939 to 1966. Known for his colourful phrases, such as ‘sitting in the catbird seat’, he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1978. He enjoyed a in the 1980s as a weekly sports commentator on the National Public Broadcasting System.
