Barclay, John (1582–1621)

English satirist. His Euphormionis Satyricon 1603–07 is a Latin satire directed against the Jesuits; Argenis (1621), a political romance, was also written in Latin.

Barclay, John (1734–1798)

Scottish minister who split with the Presbyterian Church over doctrinal differences and founded the Berean sect.

Barclay was born in Perthshire and educated at St Andrews. He took up the post of assistant minister at Fettercairn in 1765.
