Bard, Samuel

Bard, Samuel (1742–1821)

US physician. Bard helped to found the first medical college in New York State in 1765, becoming dean when the college was united with Columbia University in 1792. Bard also helped to found New York Hospital (1791), the public library, and the New York Dispensary. He was primarily interested in obstetrics and midwifery.
