integrated circuitMiniaturized electronic circuit produced on a single crystal, or chip, of a semiconducting material – usually silicon. It may contain many millions of components and yet measure only 5 mm/0.2 in square and 1 mm/0.04 in thick. The IC is encapsulated within a plastic or ceramic case, and linked via gold wires to metal pins with which it is connected to a printed circuit board and the other components that make up such electronic devices as computers and calculators. Notes: (1) Chip Size Package (CSP): CSP is a semiconductor package that has roughly the same external dimensions as the bare chip. Its lineup is composed of a bare chip, an arrayed chip, a Chip On Submount (COS) and a Transmitter Optical Sub Assembly (TOSA) and would satisfy a variety of customers' demands. Specifically, the high-frequency filter is now embedded into the multi-layered substrate while the flash memory, as a bare chip, is mounted in a cavity on the bottom of the substrate. |
