Barents Sea

Section of the Eastern Arctic Ocean which has oil and gas reserves. In World War II, the Battle of the Barents Sea on 30 December 1942 was a humiliating defeat for the German Navy.

The Barents sea lies between the European mainland, Novaya Zemlya, Franz Josef Land, and Svalbard. Its average depth is 183 m/100 fathoms.
