Barikot

Garrison town in Konar province, eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistan frontier. Besieged by Mujahedin rebels 1985, the relief of Barikot by Soviet and Afghan troops was one of the largest military engagements of the Afghan war during Soviet occupation.
