Baris

Genus of beetles belonging to the weevil family. They feed on dead parts of trees and so are not considered pests.

The larval and adult forms of B. lignarius feed on elm trees. The weevil selects a hollow tree, enters the dead wood, posterior first, and lays its eggs. It dies soon after, its body thus blocking up the entrance and protecting the young.

Classification

Baris is in family Curculionidae, order Coleoptera, class Insecta, phylum Arthropoda.
