Barnes, George Nicoll

Barnes, George Nicoll (1859–1940)

British politician, active in Labour and trade-union politics. He was a cabinet minister 1917–20, and a member of the Versailles peace conference after World War I. He prepared the draft proposals for the Commission on World Labour, which subsequently developed into the International Labour Office.

Barnes was born in Dundee, entered Parliament in 1906, and represented a Glasgow constituency until 1922.
