Barnes, John (Charles Bryan) (1963– )

Jamaican-born English footballer who won 79 England caps since his debut in 1983. After several seasons with Watford he joined Liverpool in 1987, where he won both the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year Award and the Players' Football Association (PFA) Player of the Year. He saw out his playing days with Newcastle and Charlton, before a brief and disappointing stint as manager of Celtic.
