Barranquitas

Community in central Puerto Rico, 35 km/22 mi southwest of San Juan, in the Cordillera Central; population (1990) 2,800. It is a resort and the birthplace of nationalist leader Luis Muñoz Rivera (1858–1916); there is a museum tracing his career.

Rivera and his son, the political leader Luis Muñoz Marín (1898–1980), are both buried here.
